For some, everything isn't enough. For some, just a little is everything. This event was put on by a local nonprofit organization; Safety Harbor Kids, on December 11th from 2-7 pm. at Duke's Malibu restaurant. Duke's is located at 21150 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California. Duke's provided the location, food and beverages to give needy and grateful children a special holiday experience.
About 80 West-side and Malibu residents including Miss Malibu, Brie Gabrielle and Miss Teen Malibu, Micaela Brookman and founding Malibu City Council woman Missy Zeitsoff got together with many celebrities, including Ed Asner and Jim Belushi to support the 138 local orphans, foster and homeless children that attended the event. Put on by local nonprofit, Safety Harbor Kids.
This was Safety Harbor Kids 5th annual holiday event and the third one at Duke's.
The festivities kicked off with a rousing performance by Jim Belushi, backed by the Safety Harbor Travellin' Band, which got the kids and the adults dancing and shouting. Then, the children were treated to motivation speeches from former Olympian and Raider football great, Willy Gault, actors Sofia Milos, Bai Ling and Miss California, Katie Blair. After the uplifting talks, Pearl the Wonder horse began the kids activities which included music lessons by Malibu resident Sara Levy, art lessons and toy making at Santa's Workshop.
After stockings were given to each child, dinner was served. Then, presents were given, bringing beaming smiles across the youngster's faces. These kids have nothing and would get nothing if it wasn't for the great people who donated, to make this and other events happen says SHK President Petrie Alexandra Williams.
The next Safety Harbor Kids event is their 5th Annual Etiquette and Manners Brunch at La Costa Beach Club. To attend, become a member or sponsor a child visit www.safetyharborkids.org.
